Built in the 1930βs, Haw Par Villa was developed by the makers of Tiger Balm as a full-on theme park for the local community. It features thousands of statues and dioramas whose underlying theme highlights Chinese folklore, mythology, and traditions such as filial piety and doing good for society.
Despite its bizarreness and creepiness, the park could still be interesting and insightful in an unusual way. And although Haw Par Villa has lost its former glory through the years, it is definitely a refreshing diversion from the city-centre.

Didn’t know there’s this part of SG… truly bizarre and odd, it’s a complete 180 of how I deem SG, I’ve only had the chance to roam around the business district… but like you’ve said there’s an emanating story through these statues and dioramas that runs deep that made me appreciate their culture more (weird what pics can do ;)). Thanks so much for sharing, will try to find this one on my next visit.
Sho nuff!
